A few vegetables from one of our fall drop-offs.

What kinds of produce can I expect? Each week, 8 different kinds of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and/or grains are delivered.  The identities change seasonally and weekly, based on what is ready for harvest at the farm.  For a list of what is offered each season, check out: http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M6590.

How "local" is it? These weekly deliveries come from Crooked Sky Farms located right in south Phoenix.  Therefore, for much of the year, most of the food travels less than 20 miles.  However, during the hot, summer months, much of the food comes from Duncan, AZ, less than 200 miles away.  Considering the average American meal travels at least 1300 miles, this is quite "local."

Is it organic?  The food is grown organically, without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.  The farm is certified naturally grown.  However, the farm is not USDA certified organic since this is a time consuming, costly, and difficult process.

How fresh is it? The produce is picked within 24-48 hours of delivery.
